About the Role:

The Captain plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe navigation, upkeep, and overall management of the vessel, as well as the safety of all passengers and crew members. As the leader of the onboard team, the Captain is responsible for guiding the crew on a daily basis and must fulfill the minimum qualifications set by the organization and relevant regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary manager and representative of the company onboard.
  • Ensure the safe and effective operation and navigation of the vessel under all weather conditions, prioritizing the safety of everyone on board.
  • Maintain compliance with the vessel's Certificate of Inspection (COI) and ensure accurate passenger counts are conducted and documented.
  • Oversee the training of the crew and ensure adherence to all applicable United States Coast Guard, federal, and state regulations, as well as company policies. Regularly assess crew performance and capabilities, keeping the Operations Manager informed.
  • Promptly report any accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences to the appropriate management, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the vessel.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of the engine room while underway.
  • Document and report maintenance activities and any deficiencies using the company's designated software.
  • Be familiar with the vessel's Security Plan and ensure that security drills are conducted and logged as required.
  • Conduct safety drills in accordance with USCG regulations and company policy.
  • Lead daily job briefings at the start and end of each shift, ensuring completion is recorded in the vessel's logbook.
  • Ensure that all crew members adhere to company policies and regulations.
  • Uphold compliance with Coast Guard regulations and other relevant federal and local laws.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the Emergency Response Plan.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a valid 100-ton Masters License with a clean record.
  • Hold a valid TWIC Card and First Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Have an FCC Marine Radio Operators Permit.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of maritime experience, with at least two (2) years in a Master role preferred.
  • Strong emphasis on safety and teamwork, with the ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all ship systems and their maintenance.
  • Capable of analyzing and resolving issues while prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Ability to remain calm and take charge in various situations.
  • Excellent communication skills to direct crew, ensure passenger safety, and convey important information.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and manage heavy items as needed.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident as per US Coast Guard regulations.
