Job Overview

Position Summary:

The role involves diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machinery. This position operates under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct skilled repair and maintenance tasks utilizing tools such as hand tools, power tools, hydraulic presses, shears, and welding equipment.
  • Identify faults or malfunctions to determine necessary repairs, employing engine diagnostic tools including computerized testing equipment and calibration devices.
  • Inspect components for damage or excessive wear.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy machinery using hoists and hand tools.
  • Test, inspect, and measure completed work with tools and gauges to ensure compliance with standards and repair specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and lubricating equipment and vehicles.
  • Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears accurately.
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Weld or solder broken components and structural parts using electric or gas welding tools.
  • Clean parts by applying grease solvent or immersing them in solvent tanks.
  • Document maintenance and repair activities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to handle and feel equipment.
  • Capability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl as necessary.
  • Utilization of hearing and smell senses.
  • Capacity to lift items weighing up to 110 pounds.
  • Ability to exert force to push and pull items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Visual acuity to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Peripheral vision to observe surroundings while focusing on a specific point.
  • Depth perception to judge distances and spatial relationships accurately.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including temperature and moisture, which must be tolerated.
  • High noise levels and significant vibrations are common in this role, often caused by machinery and job site activities.
  • Potential physical hazards include proximity to moving parts, falls from heights, and exposure to various environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to materials such as cement, lime, concrete admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other potentially hazardous substances.
  • Work may be performed indoors in non-controlled environments.
  • Work may involve being in a confined vehicle or equipment.

Qualifications:

  • ASE Certification or equivalent experience in the industry.
  • Valid Class B Driver's License (preferred or capable of obtaining).
  • Must be insurable through the company's insurance provider.
  • Experience and knowledge in handling heavy-duty diesel equipment.
  • Possession of necessary tools for job functions.
  • Able to test-drive equipment as needed to confirm repairs.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and varied shifts as required.
