Job Overview

The Finger Lakes Community College seeks a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Coordinator of First-Year Experience. This is a full-time, grant-funded position that will play a critical role in supporting the academic success and overall well-being of first-year students.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in student support and academic advisement, with experience working with diverse student populations in a higher education setting. They will be responsible for coordinating and delivering professional development in first-year experience pedagogy to first-year seminar faculty, as well as facilitating communities of practice to enhance the transition and success of first-year students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Faculty and Staff Professional Development: Provide resources and support for faculty with classroom management and educational planning, coordinate and deliver professional development in first-year experience pedagogy, and support first-year seminar faculty in adopting and developing proven and innovative teaching strategies.
  2. Facilitates Community of Practice (CoP): Assist in enhancing the transition and success of first-year students by addressing challenges such as student retention, engagement, and academic success, collaborate with key stakeholders to share insights, strategies, and resources, and coordinate the practical application of transition pedagogies.
  3. Liaison Between Departments and Stakeholders Involved in Supporting First-Year Students: Collaborate effectively with the Title III team, liaise with other departments, and coordinate with faculty stakeholders and appropriate Advisory Boards to influence the development of integrated systems to support first-year experience improvements.
  4. Compliance, Assessment and Accessibility: Ensure all course materials, assessments, and activities comply with institutional accessibility standards and relevant legal requirements, develop, implement, and assess the effectiveness of FYE programs, and design and administer surveys to gather feedback from students, faculty, and staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Student Development, Educational Leadership, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in student support and academic advisement for diverse student populations in a higher education setting required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated experience facilitating workshops or workgroups required.
