Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing individualized support and services to consumers, helping them to achieve their recovery goals and improve their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Services: Teach Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills, including personal hygiene, grooming, and self-care, as well as cooking and housekeeping. Provide one-on-one support in the community, including meeting with consumers weekly for six months to help them manage their illnesses and prevent predictable problems.
- Support Consumers in Stressful Situations: Travel with consumers to appointments, provide emotional support, and teach coping skills and community integration skills.
- Assist with Benefits Acquisition: Help consumers acquire Medicaid, Social Security, housing, and other benefits.
- Facilitate Peer Support Groups: Lead groups for individuals with co-occurring and substance abuse disorders.
- Maintain Productivity and Documentation: Document all services in the electronic database and review daily service encounters and progress notes on a weekly basis.
- Support ACT Team Members: Provide peer recovery, rehabilitation, and treatment support to promote a culture that reflects the consumer's point of view.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalency, Peer training program, and active Peer Specialist certification from the DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH).
- Skills and Competencies: Excellent oral, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving skills, and skills in co-occurring disorders treatment.
