The Housing Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting families facing homelessness in navigating available resources and achieving stability. This position is vital for engaging with vulnerable populations and providing essential support services.

Role Responsibilities


The Housing Support Specialist is tasked with:

  • Assessing the needs of families entering our services and providing tailored support through mediation, reunification, or relocation assistance.
  • Conducting outreach efforts to connect families with available resources and services.
  • Facilitating housing assessments to prioritize assistance for those experiencing chronic homelessness.
  • Educating community members and service providers about the eligibility criteria and services available for homeless families.

Key Duties


The essential functions of this role include:

  • Engaging in community outreach to assist marginalized individuals in addressing local challenges related to housing.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Verifying the status of families reporting homelessness, which may involve outreach to encampments.
  • Participating in relevant meetings to collaborate with other service providers and stakeholders.
  • Accompanying families to appointments as necessary.
  • Evaluating the overall needs of families to establish realistic goals and provide support for issues such as unstable housing, health concerns, and domestic violence.
  • Offering childcare and facilitating activities for children at service locations.

Performance Metrics


Success in this role is measured by:

  • Completing a minimum of seven assessments weekly.
  • Providing at least five referrals each week.
  • Achieving successful resolutions for problem-solving cases weekly.
  • Conducting one training session weekly.

Qualifications


To be successful in this position, candidates should possess:

  • Education or experience in trauma-informed care, domestic violence, mental health, or related fields.
  • A valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • A strong understanding of professional ethics and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with families in crisis or unstable housing situations.
  • Knowledge of social service resources available in the local area.

Additional Requirements


Certification in First Aid/CPR is required within the first 90 days of employment.
