Job Opportunity: Correctional Officer

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Correctional Officers at the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and inmates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform security rounds and enforce disciplinary sanctions
  • Initiate and monitor inmate movement, recognizing abnormal or inappropriate behavior
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical emergencies, and restrain unruly inmates using force and restraining devices
  • Document incidents, movement, rounds, and inmate discipline
  • Perform person, property, and facility searches, and operate department computer programs
  • Communicate effectively with the public, staff, inmates, and in court or other formal settings
  • Attend and participate in shift briefings, division, and department meetings, and required training
Requirements:
  • Pass a physical agility test, written exam, panel interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical evaluations
  • Meet the general health status necessary to perform the essential job functions of a Law Enforcement Officer
