Job Overview

Salary:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Immigration Support Specialist conducts interviews and assessments for newly arrived individuals and families seeking immigration assistance, including Asylum seekers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applicants, victims of crimes (U), those under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), victims of human trafficking (T), and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS); ensuring their cases are effectively managed and submitted to the appropriate governmental agencies to achieve the desired outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CASE MANAGEMENT:

  • Assess and determine case eligibility in accordance with immigration laws and regulations.
  • Guide applicants on the necessary documentation to support their immigration requests.
  • Translate civil and related documents for applicants as needed.
  • Accurately prepare applications and/or petitions for submission to the designated government entities.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding any changes in their contact information and the status of their cases.
  • Review incoming correspondence from USCIS or other immigration authorities.
  • Liaise with CIS, U.S. embassies, and consulates as required.
  • Provide interpretation support to clients concerning this program.
  • Refer clients to additional HACES programs for any further identified needs.
  • Organize and manage client files to ensure they remain active and orderly.
  • Keep databases updated as per instructions.
  • Prepare and submit reports as directed.
  • Ensure adherence to the organization's policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is essential.
  • Strong commitment to immigrant rights and social, economic, and racial justice.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Legal Studies, or a related field, or an Associate's degree in paralegal studies with three years of relevant experience.
  • Immigration Paralegal Training and DOJ Accreditation are advantageous, along with a commitment to pursue and maintain DOJ Accreditation.

  • Basic computer skills are required; familiarity with Microsoft and Google applications is preferred; experience with Salesforce for case management is a plus.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, analyze issues critically, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, including participation in immigration workshops and outreach activities.
  • Must possess access to a vehicle with a valid driver's license and insurance.
