Job Overview

Salary:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Immigration Support Specialist conducts interviews and assessments of newly arrived individuals and families seeking immigration relief, including applicants for Asylum, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), victims of crimes (U), Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), victims of human trafficking (T), and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS); ensuring that their cases are effectively managed and submitted to the appropriate government agencies to achieve the desired benefits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CASE MANAGEMENT:

  • Assess and evaluate cases for eligibility in accordance with immigration laws and regulations.
  • Provide guidance to applicants regarding the necessary documentation to support their applications.
  • Translate civil and other relevant documents for applicants.
  • Complete applications and/or petitions accurately and prepare them for submission to the designated government office.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding address changes and the status of their cases.
  • Review incoming notifications from USCIS or other immigration offices.
  • Liaise with CIS, U.S. embassies, and consulates as required.
  • Offer interpretation assistance to clients related to this program.
  • Refer clients to other HACES programs for additional identified needs.
  • Organize and review client files to ensure they remain active and well-maintained.
  • Update information in the database(s) as directed.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Ensure adherence to the organization's policies and procedures.

  • Staying informed about legislative changes and ensuring the team is updated.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is essential.
  • Dedication to immigrant rights and social, economic, and racial justice.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Legal Studies, or a related field, or an Associate's degree in paralegal studies with three years of relevant experience.
  • Immigration Paralegal Training and DOJ Accreditation is advantageous, along with a commitment to pursue and maintain DOJ Accreditation.

  • Basic computer skills are required; familiarity with Microsoft and Google suites is preferred; experience with Salesforce for case management is a plus.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing collaboratively to a team.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, critically analyze issues, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends is necessary, including participation in immigration workshops and outreach events.
  • Must possess access to an automobile with a valid driver's license and insurance.
