Position Overview

Role: You will act as the primary authority on-site for managing and allocating resources for upcoming environmental program needs within the designated shipyard.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the evaluation, analysis, and forecasting of resources while establishing execution timelines to support future environmental planning and compliance.
  • Develop, analyze, and assess the resource requirements for future environmental programs at the assigned shipyard.
  • Effectively communicate and clarify short-term and long-term environmental program requirements and strategies for the shipyard.
  • Provide direct technical and administrative supervision to a team of environmental engineers, physical scientists, planners, and/or biologists.
  • Direct the work of subordinates, set and modify short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for task completion.
Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • Completion of training and maintenance of a government credit card for travel-related expenses.
  • For candidates applying as an Environmental Engineer (0819 series), possession of a current Professional Engineer (PE) registration from any state, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and suitable for federal employment.
  • Participation in the direct deposit pay program is mandatory.
  • New hires must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, performing duties such as:
    • Oversight or coordination of an environmental program, including strategy and scheduling of activities at a shipyard or similar facility.
    • Implementation of environmental compliance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
    • Effective communication with stakeholders regarding environmental program requirements.
    • Leadership or coordination of a diverse team to achieve program objectives.
Education:

Applicants for the 0819 series must meet the basic education requirements set by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which include:

  • A professional engineering degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or equivalent.
