Automation and Manufacturing Engineer

- Identify and implement ongoing enhancement initiatives aimed at boosting safety, quality, labor efficiency, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). This includes exploring improvements in infrastructure, bottle production, end-of-line automation, packaging, and warehousing.
- Manage and oversee engineering and automation projects, including estimating costs, justifying return on investment, forecasting finances, overseeing installation, initiating operations, and compiling project reports.
- Prepare trip itineraries, solicit quotes, conduct competitive bidding, perform vendor evaluations (cost/benefit analysis), finalize projects, document lessons learned, and track costs for all initiatives.
- Ensure project scope is accurately defined and updated to reflect financial implications.
- Promote a culture of standardization in safety protocols, automation processes, equipment selection, and project management methodologies.
- Lead intricate equipment relocations to support new business ventures.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including quality assurance, sales, production operations, and warehousing.
- Direct projects involving external suppliers and take proactive steps in identifying new equipment vendors.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for communication with external clients.
- Develop training materials, standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and validation documents for equipment, incorporating best practices.
- Assist in the design, enhancement, and fabrication of both internally developed and externally sourced blow molding and auxiliary machinery.
- Up to 50% travel may be required based on project assignments and the location of the home plant.
Mandatory: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial) or 10-15 years of relevant experience in manufacturing and maintenance.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Mandatory:
- At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, plant engineering, automation engineering, or maintenance engineering.
- Experience in plastics packaging, specifically in bottle production, filling, or supply chain.
- Familiarity with robotics, automated guided vehicles, control systems, and facility equipment installations across various applications and platforms.
- Experience in plant layout design, bulk material handling, and utility audits.
- Proficiency in equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with sustainability initiatives and energy reduction strategies.
- Knowledge of blow molding technologies.
- General understanding of OSHA safety regulations.
- Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing principles.
Computer Proficiency: Experience with MS Excel and MS Project.
Industrial Electricity and Controls Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of industrial power distribution systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industrial infrastructure equipment (compressed air systems, process water systems, switchgear, HVAC).
- Basic understanding of ladder logic, control systems, human-machine interfaces, and robotics.
