Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station. This role requires a strong focus on safety, customer service, and environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials and take corrective action as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Document equipment condition and report any necessary repairs to supervisors.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of prior experience in heavy equipment operation, preferably in a recycling or waste management setting.
  • One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
