JOB SUMMARY
Peer Support Specialists I are essential in providing support to program participants through their personal experiences with disabilities or social challenges.
 Leverage personal experience to assist clients in managing their own crises.
 Offer practical support for navigating various systems and provider organizations within the city.
 Accompany clients who may experience anxiety during medical appointments or other essential health-related activities.
 Engage in support and informational groups focused on relevant topics for clients.
 Provide individualized support through discussion and encouragement for clients in distress.
 Connect with service providers to assist clients in crisis situations as necessary.
 Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and aid in data collection, particularly regarding risk factors such as hospitalization.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 High School Diploma or GED equivalent
 Provisional New York State Peer Specialist Certification
 Current or former participant in a mental health program.
 History of mental health challenges with at least one year of symptom remission.
 Proficient in reading and writing.
 Familiarity with computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
 Strong communication skills.
 Proven ability to engage with individuals with behavioral health challenges.

• Bilingual candidates in Spanish/English, Russian/English, Creole/English, Chinese/English, or Korean/English are preferred.

• Willingness to travel as needed.
