POSITION OVERVIEW

In accordance with regulatory standards, the governing body appoints the Chief Executive Officer to take full legal authority and accountability for the administration of the hospice, overseeing all hospice services, financial operations, and ongoing quality assessment and performance enhancement.

A qualified administrator, designated by and reporting to the governing body, is tasked with the daily management of the hospice.

The administrator must be a hospice employee and possess the education and experience mandated by the governing body.

Required Education & Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Health Care is preferred, or equivalent direct work experience.

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in health care management, with five (5) years preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must demonstrate the ability to supervise and lead professional and administrative staff.

Must possess the ability to interact tactfully with the community.

Must have knowledge of corporate business management principles.

Must understand hospice care and the services provided to patients and families/caregivers through an interdisciplinary approach.

Must possess a thorough understanding of Medicare Hospice Certification.

Other Requirements

Must be able to travel as needed.

Must be adaptable with work hours.

Essential Job Functions

Conduct tasks related to operational planning and budgeting.

Ensure organizational adherence to legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

Oversee business operations to guarantee financial stability.

Assess hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.

Manage conflict and complaints effectively.

Establish and maintain effective communication channels, including the integration of technology where applicable.

Ensure hospice personnel remain updated with clinical information and practices.

Guarantee adequate and appropriate staffing levels.

Facilitate staff development through orientation, in-service training, continuing education, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.

Ensure interdisciplinary care is delivered.

Provide supportive services to personnel.

Coordinate with other departments, services, and senior management as appropriate.

Keep staff and the organization informed on local and national hospice issues and trends.

Develop and implement service policies and procedures to achieve identified outcomes.

Guide staff in their duties related to patient admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and service provision.

Ensure appropriate supervision of staff during all service hours.

Monitor service utilization to ensure comprehensive care delivery.

Ensure services provided by external agencies are authorized by the hospice.

Track operational progress towards achieving strategic goals.

Ensure that necessary data collection and reports are submitted to the Governing Body.

Ensure adequate space, equipment, and supplies are available.

Derive actionable objectives from evaluations of hospice services and personnel.

Ensure that organizational structure and systems promote interdisciplinary care.

Collaborate with agencies and vendors for effective service management.

Uphold standards of ethical business and clinical practices.

Work Environment

Must adhere to company policies, procedures, and processes in addition to hospice and homecare regulations.

Must be reliable and flexible with work schedules.

Must comply with harassment and discrimination policies.

Must foster positive working relationships.


Must possess a valid driver's license and have a reliable, insured vehicle that meets organizational/state requirements and is in good working condition.

Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check prior to hiring and annually thereafter.

Physical Environment

May require travel in adverse weather conditions.

May necessitate prolonged periods of standing and sitting.

Must be able to hear and see with or without assistance.

Must be able to read and follow instructions as necessary.


Must be willing to participate in a drug/alcohol screening prior to hiring, if involved in a work-related automobile accident, or if reasonable suspicion is reported.
