Position Overview

The Cook County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is looking for a dedicated full-time Data Insights Analyst. This role will support the Director of Research in delivering precise, timely, and data-informed evaluations of various operations within the CCSO, including the management of individuals in custody, staffing dynamics, law enforcement activities, and other CCSO programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate statistical reports and analyses to assist in the formulation of policies that address the specific requirements of the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
  • Conduct ongoing analyses of individuals in custody data, producing reports that outline the characteristics of the jail population and monitoring changes over time.
  • Engage in continuous evaluations related to classification, inmate housing requirements, and facility management.
  • Assist in the assessment of CCSO programs, including those funded by grants, to enhance or expand services over time.
  • Analyze data from the Circuit Court of Cook County and other stakeholders in the criminal justice system to understand the impact of external decisions on the jail population.
  • Research and evaluate law enforcement strategies, including the validation of computer-aided dispatch data.
  • Set and achieve personal and team goals, ensuring accountability for project timelines and successful project completions.
  • Document key processes and methodologies for each assigned project effectively.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, including managing communications, organizing documentation, and data entry.
  • Participate in regular meetings focused on data analysis and prepare comprehensive reports and presentations as directed by the Director of Research.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and manage projects from inception to completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, Predictive Analytics, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience utilizing statistical analysis software such as R or STATA.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Successful completion of background checks with no criminal convictions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Public Policy, Criminal Justice, Statistics, Predictive Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with court systems and pre-trial detention data.
  • Experience within a criminal justice agency.
  • Familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS, Tableau, Python, and Microsoft SQL.
