The Recovery Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering peer support services to individuals facing substance use challenges. This position is dedicated to assisting clients in their journey towards lasting recovery by facilitating access to recovery-oriented treatment, community resources, and support groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a bridge between the recovery community and various treatment systems, ensuring comprehensive support for patients.
- Engage with individuals identified with substance use disorders, providing guidance and support throughout their recovery journey.
- Conduct initial assessments to understand patients' needs, history, and goals, collaborating with clinical teams to facilitate appropriate referrals.
- Work in partnership with treatment teams to deliver evidence-based services tailored to the needs of individuals with substance use disorders.
- Assist patients in navigating healthcare and social service systems, including accompanying them to essential appointments.
- Provide transportation to clients for attending meetings and appointments as necessary.
- Educate patients about addiction, employing motivational techniques to encourage engagement in treatment.
- Offer peer counseling to help patients establish and achieve their recovery goals.
- Identify and address barriers to recovery, serving as a role model and advocate for patients.
- Conduct outreach efforts to promote participation in recovery-oriented and self-help groups.
- Facilitate access to treatment for substance use and co-occurring conditions, developing efficient systems to identify and address treatment needs.
- Contribute to quality assurance and program evaluation through data collection.
- Collaborate with patients and care teams to create relapse prevention and intervention plans.
- Monitor patient progress and outcomes using a tracking system.
- Ensure effective communication among patients, primary care providers, and external service providers while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate records and standardized data for all patients, regularly reviewing caseloads with supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Recovery Coach or Peer Specialist is required.
- A minimum of three years in sustained recovery is essential.
- Possession of reliable transportation and comprehensive insurance coverage.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are necessary.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of community resources and advocacy skills are crucial.
- Comfort with diverse recovery pathways and a patient-centered approach is essential.
- Experience in both medical and social service environments is preferred.
- Clinical skills in motivational enhancement strategies are advantageous.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback in a non-judgmental manner.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and circumstances is important.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet use is required.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
