Overview of Key Responsibilities

This role involves providing direct patient assistance under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional, adhering to all applicable regulations and the policies of Mercy Health. Responsibilities include collecting patient specimens as required and ensuring their safe transport to the laboratory. You will be accountable for maintaining patient comfort and safety, while also addressing the specific needs of various patient demographics, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric populations. Additionally, you will assist with administrative tasks within the department while upholding confidentiality standards.

Core Responsibilities

+ Deliver fundamental patient care, which encompasses comfort measures, EKG administration, monitoring vital signs, personal hygiene, mobility assistance, wound care, and patient transportation. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities. Maintain inventory and restock supplies to ensure readiness at all times.

+ Conduct phlebotomy and laboratory tasks within your designated area, providing support across various departments as necessary. Ensure prompt delivery of STAT tests to the clinical laboratory. Perform administrative duties related to clinical laboratory operations as assigned. Collect blood samples in the appropriate containers, ensuring proper labeling and documentation in accordance with established protocols.

+ Welcome patients, explain procedures clearly, and maintain a professional rapport. Provide exceptional customer service to patients, their families, visitors, and staff. Address any concerns or issues promptly and act as a liaison between patients and nursing staff to communicate changes or concerns.

+ Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills consistently. Respond to call lights and phone inquiries promptly, following up as needed.

+ Keep the work area clean and organized. Assist in the maintenance and care of departmental equipment and supplies, adhering to hand hygiene protocols as per hospital policy.

+ Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Required:

High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure/Certification Required:

Current Ohio STNA Certification at the time of hire.

Experience Requirements:

Two years of recent experience in an acute or long-term care setting, or nursing students who have completed at least one semester of clinical rotation.

Combination of post-secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
