JOB SUMMARY

  • Accountable for executing the daily activity schedule established by the Activity Director. Expected to uphold and adhere to the Activity Program's mission, philosophy, policies, and state and federal guidelines. Aims to enhance and sustain the highest quality of life for each resident, with a comprehensive understanding of all psychosocial, medical, and activity preferences.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the healthcare sector, including volunteering or personal involvement with individuals with disabilities.
  • Current awareness of Federal and State activity regulations and/or capability to comprehend and interpret them.
  • Ability to read and write in English is essential.
  • Bi-lingual skills may be preferred based on specific facility needs.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must demonstrate punctuality and efficiency, particularly in relation to adhering to the activity schedule.
  • Exhibit qualities of empathy, compassion, understanding, enthusiasm, approachability, energy, positivity, and humor to effectively engage with residents, families, and staff.
  • Ability to relate and work with individuals who are ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally distressed, and occasionally confrontational.
  • Effective communication skills with the community, other healthcare professionals, external organizations, senior services, government entities, and any other relevant providers or professionals.
  • Understand and manage emotional needs for oneself and the team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Capable of pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • May need to lift equipment, supplies, and occasionally rearrange furniture.
  • Must be able to move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate flexibility, integrity, and effectively collaborate with residents, family members, staff, and support personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide insights to the Activity Director for assessing the achievement of facility and program objectives through a collaborative approach.
  • Lead a therapeutic, resident-centered activity program that consistently aims to improve the quality of life for each resident while aligning with the Activity Mission and Philosophy.
  • Adhere to all Activity Policies and Procedures as well as Federal and State regulations.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of each resident's background, cultural history, medical needs, and care requirements to develop a suitable person-centered activity plan.
  • Ensure that activities are conducted daily and reflect the preferences, schedules, and rights of the residents.
  • Be attuned to the communication needs of residents, including language services and communication aids.
  • As directed by the Activity Director, conduct and complete initial and ongoing assessments covering social, medical, cognitive, communication, spiritual, physical, neuropsychological, and behavioral aspects as they relate to individual activities and leisure.
  • Document and fulfill all necessary paperwork as required by the Activity Director.
  • Maintain records such as Resident Daily Participation, Resident Progress notes, Leisure Interest Surveys, and Activity Planning sheets to assist in scheduling and addressing resident needs.
  • Assist in updating activity boards under the guidance of the Activity Director, ensuring a creative, neat, and clean monthly theme.
  • Encourage community engagement by inviting local entities to participate in events and programs.
  • Support resident outings, which may include trips to shopping centers, movies, restaurants, and community events, including providing transportation as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to maintain a cohesive team approach and continuity of care.
  • Ensure adherence to the activity schedule and conduct all activities punctually; activities may not be canceled without the Activity Director's consent.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in a clean and orderly manner, notifying the Activity Director within 48 hours if new materials are required for scheduled activities or if repairs are necessary.
  • Update calendars and boards on a daily basis.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
