DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Finance Department manages all financial and accounting operations for the organization’s multiple locations. This department encompasses various functions, including treasury, accounting, government grants, tax, contracts, payroll, and risk management. The Finance team is dedicated to delivering timely financial reporting to support the Center's essential services to the community.

JOB SUMMARY: The Compensation and Benefits Supervisor at the Los Angeles LGBT Center is crucial in ensuring precise and timely payroll processing for the organization. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this role oversees payroll operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while adhering to organizational policies. The Supervisor maintains payroll data integrity, addresses payroll-related concerns, and implements enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, providing payroll expertise, and ensuring exceptional service for employee inquiries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the complete payroll process, including data entry, verification, processing, and distribution for all staff.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax withholding and employment laws.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to guarantee accurate employee data and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Stay informed on payroll tax laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, ensuring timely compliance with tax obligations.
  • Work with external vendors to ensure seamless payroll processing.
  • Generate and distribute payroll reports and analyses to management and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of payroll policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal controls.
  • Assist in implementing payroll system upgrades and process improvements.
  • Manage internal and external payroll audits by providing necessary documentation.
  • Utilize payroll software effectively to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for system enhancements to improve accuracy and user experience.
  • Provide training and support to staff on payroll-related policies and systems.
  • Serve as the primary expert on payroll matters, offering guidance to colleagues.
  • Delegate payroll-related projects to the Payroll Specialist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with the LGBTQ community and understanding relevant issues.
  • A passion for the Center's mission to improve the lives of LGBTQ individuals.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in payroll processing and team management, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare setting.
  • Strong background in managing payroll systems.
  • High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor's degree in accounting or related fields is advantageous.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of payroll laws and best practices, particularly in California.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive payroll information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
