Role Overview: The Surgical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting surgeons during various surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through skilled support and technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining surgical exposure, managing hemostasis, and facilitating closure during operations under the guidance of the lead surgeon.
  • Perform essential preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative tasks, adhering to established hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Engage in a variety of technical functions, including but not limited to:
    • Placement of Foley catheters and intravenous lines.
    • Application of tourniquets and cricoid pressure as required.
    • Execution of incision and layered closure techniques, ensuring proper hemostasis through various methods.
    • Manipulation and dissection of tissues, assisting in the implantation and removal of medical devices and drains.
    • Application of appropriate dressings and materials specific to each surgical procedure.

Additional Duties: The Surgical Support Specialist may also undertake other procedures under the supervision of the surgeon, including vein and graft harvesting, as well as preparation of grafts and implants.

Qualifications: Candidates must have completed an accredited Surgical First Assistant Program, a State Board accredited Vocational School of Nursing, or a recognized School of Surgical Technology.
