Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a licensed anesthetist and RN, the Surgical Anesthesia Support Specialist delivers essential anesthesia assistance during surgical operations.

This role involves anticipating the requirements of the licensed anesthetist by preparing and maintaining supplies, patient monitoring equipment, and anesthesia delivery systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Foreseeing anesthesia needs, maintaining inventory levels, setting up supplies and equipment, cleaning and storing equipment, operating equipment, performing basic troubleshooting, and ensuring equipment functionality and upkeep.
  • Actively participating as a key member of the perioperative team, collaborating with the circulating RN and the perioperative team to guarantee a safe and optimal patient experience.

Specific Duties

In this role, you will:

  • Anticipate the anesthetist's needs for regional, epidural, and spinal blocks, as well as general anesthesia induction, utilizing technical expertise in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting anesthesia delivery systems and monitoring devices.
  • Employ aseptic techniques consistently, preparing necessary supplies and equipment for invasive line monitoring.
  • Maintain designated levels of anesthesia supplies, ensuring carts are stocked with essential items for surgical procedures.
  • Engage in evaluating new equipment and supplies relevant to anesthesia services.
  • Ensure that utilized equipment is properly cleaned, stored, and maintained prior to use; perform basic troubleshooting as needed.
  • Submit maintenance requests promptly for necessary repairs. Clean and store equipment post-use, schedule preventative maintenance as required, and follow up on completion.
  • Consistently clean, disinfect, sterilize, and ensure the availability of anesthesia equipment in accordance with AORN standards.
  • Collaborate with the circulating RN to assist with the placement of non-invasive monitoring devices, patient transport, and positioning as directed.

Qualifications
- High School Graduate / GED

Preferred:
- Previous experience as an anesthesia technician in a hospital environment.
