The City of Chesapeake is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Worker to join our Public Utilities team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting and maintaining grounds housekeeping, hedge trimming, grass cutting, and weed eating, clearing fence lines, and cutting large fields.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment, including adding oil, checking nuts and bolts for tightness, cleaning, painting, and re-labeling.
- Conduct indoor maintenance, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical repairs, fixture moving or repair, and cleaning buildings, electrical rooms, and mechanical rooms.
- Perform outdoor maintenance, including concrete work, painting, roof replacing or repairs, structure repair, and other tasks.
- Assist with remote sites crews with equipment repairs, meter readings, and administration of water treatment chemicals.
- Perform standby duties as assigned.
- Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City's policies.
- Must have the ability to work hours in excess of normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Experience in maintenance work, particularly in the water production industry, is highly desirable.
