Position Overview

SUMMARY:

The Nutritional Services Assistant is responsible for food preparation and maintaining a clean and safe work environment in accordance with health regulations. This role involves assisting the culinary team in serving meals that are not only nutritious but also visually appealing, while adhering to dietary preferences as specified by healthcare professionals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comply with the Food Safety Manual in all aspects of food handling and preparation.
  • Monitor and document the cleanliness, temperature, and operational status of dishwashing and pot washing areas.
  • Ensure daily sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas, including sweeping, mopping, and waste disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness of utensils and serving dishes, ensuring they are ready for the next meal service.
  • Assist in verifying the accuracy of meal trays before distribution.
  • Support management in maintaining adequate food supply levels, ensuring proper storage and rotation of inventory.
  • Adhere to facility policies regarding sanitation, safety, and infection control as required by health authorities.
  • Prepare and serve meals according to specific dietary needs (e.g., pureed, low sodium, mechanically soft).
  • Keep the work area organized and free from hazardous materials.
  • Assist with meal transportation as necessary.
  • Engage with patients, staff, and visitors in a respectful and warm manner.
  • Deliver services with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Support the culinary team with meal preparation tasks as needed.
  • Utilize time effectively to complete responsibilities without compromising quality.
  • Exhibit flexibility in scheduling to meet departmental requirements.
  • Deliver nutritional formulas to designated nursing stations as per established protocols.
  • Prepare and provide morning snacks according to specified guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

A High School diploma or equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred: One (1) year of experience in a food service environment, either institutional or commercial.

CERTIFICATION:

Food Handlers Certification is required. Participation in behavioral management and de-escalation training as mandated by the organization is also necessary. Certification in behavior management or related fields (e.g., SAMA, ABA, PIP) is advantageous.
