Active Minerals International is currently looking for a Laboratory Technician to carry out essential functions at our Aiken SC Kaolin Clay processing facility.

Active Minerals International (AMI) is a global leader in specialty industrial minerals, focusing on the production and marketing of high-purity kaolin and gel quality attapulgite clay minerals for various industries including fiberglass, concrete, plaster, paints, rubber, and agriculture.

Position Overview:
The Laboratory Technician will conduct routine laboratory tests to ensure that customer shipments comply with specifications, perform sufficient in-process testing to maintain process control, and execute crude testing according to established procedures as directed by the supervisor. Additional testing may be performed for special projects and troubleshooting as time allows. The technician may also assist with other tasks to support daily operations as directed by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specific laboratory test methods and execute them accurately as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Record data accurately or input it into the computer system in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that instruments are calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Maintain knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and actively participate in the QMS program.
  • Authorize shipments in accordance with specifications.
  • Follow procedures for non-conforming products as necessary.
  • Issue Certificates of Analysis (COA) as required for clients.
  • Collect samples as needed from the plant or mine area.
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues to identify root causes and initiate solutions.
  • Work on backlog samples as time permits to expedite results.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment at the start of each shift as required.
  • Adhere to all QMS procedures and documentation relevant to the position and department, as mandated by ISO standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. High school diploma or GED is required.
  2. Prior experience in a laboratory environment is advantageous.
  3. Ability to learn quickly and perform tasks accurately with minimal supervision.
  4. Team-oriented mindset.
  5. Strong analytical, computer, and problem-solving abilities; familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is essential.
  6. Must prioritize safety and lead by example.
  7. Proactive in seeking improvements in quality and safety practices.
  8. Excellent organizational skills.

Work Environment:

This role is conducted in a production environment. The position involves lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying up to 55 lbs regularly. The ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb up to 70 feet is required. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating hand controls and/or a computer keyboard. Vision and hearing capabilities are also essential.
