Active Minerals International (AMI) stands as a global leader in the field of specialty industrial minerals, focusing on the production and marketing of high-purity kaolin and gel-quality attapulgite clay minerals for various industries including fiberglass, concrete, plaster, paints, rubber, and agriculture.

Position Overview:
The Laboratory Technician will conduct routine laboratory tests to ensure that customer shipments comply with specifications. This role involves performing in-process testing to maintain process control and conducting crude testing according to established procedures as directed by the supervisor. Additional testing may be performed for special projects and troubleshooting as time allows. The technician will also assist with daily operations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in plant-specific laboratory testing methods as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Accurately document data or input it into the computer system in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that laboratory instruments are calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Maintain active participation in the Quality Management System (QMS) program.
  • Authorize shipments in accordance with specifications.
  • Follow procedures for non-conforming products as necessary.
  • Issue Certificates of Analysis (COA) for customers as required.
  • Collect samples as needed from the production area.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues to determine root causes and implement solutions.
  • Work on backlog samples to expedite results.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment at the start of each shift.
  • Adhere to all QMS procedures and documentation relevant to the position and department, as required by ISO standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. High school diploma or GED is required.
  2. Previous laboratory experience is advantageous.
  3. Ability to learn quickly and perform tasks accurately with minimal supervision.
  4. Team-oriented mindset.
  5. Strong analytical, computer, and problem-solving abilities; familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
  6. Safety-conscious with a proactive approach.
  7. Initiative to improve quality and safety within the organization.
  8. Excellent organizational skills.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a production environment, requiring the ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 55 lbs regularly. The role involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing up to 70 feet. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating hand controls and/or a computer keyboard, along with good vision and hearing capabilities.
