Active Minerals International (AMI) is a global leader in specialty industrial minerals, focusing on the production and marketing of high-purity kaolin and gel-quality attapulgite clay minerals for various industries including fiberglass, concrete, plaster, paints, rubber, and agriculture.

Position Overview:
This role involves conducting routine laboratory tests to ensure that customer shipments adhere to specifications, performing sufficient in-process testing to monitor and maintain process control, and executing crude testing in accordance with standard procedures as directed by the supervisor. The technician will also engage in additional testing for special projects and troubleshooting as time allows. Furthermore, the technician may assist with other tasks necessary for daily operations as directed by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specific laboratory test methods and execute them accurately as requested by the supervisor.
  • Record data or input it into the computer system promptly and accurately.
  • Ensure that instruments are calibrated and maintained in optimal working condition.
  • Understand QMS procedures and actively participate in the QMS program.
  • Authorize shipments to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Follow procedures for non-conforming products as necessary.
  • Issue Certificates of Analysis (COA) for customers as required.
  • Collect samples as needed from the plant or mine area.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues to determine root causes and initiate solutions.
  • Work on backlog samples as time permits to expedite results.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment at the start of each shift as required.
  • Adhere to all QMS procedures and documentation relevant to the position and department, as mandated by ISO standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. High school diploma or GED is required.
  2. Prior experience in a laboratory environment is advantageous.
  3. Ability to learn quickly and perform tasks accurately with minimal supervision.
  4. Team-oriented mindset.
  5. Strong analytical, computer, and problem-solving skills, with experience in Microsoft Office applications.
  6. Safety-conscious attitude and ability to lead by example.
  7. Proactive approach to improving quality and safety standards at Active Minerals.
  8. Excellent organizational skills.

Work Environment:

The role is performed in a production environment, requiring the ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 55 lbs regularly. The position involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing up to 70 feet. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating hand controls and/or a computer keyboard. Vision and hearing capabilities are also essential.
