Job Summary

The Residential Advisor - Student Guidance will provide guidance and support to students in a dormitory setting, ensuring a positive and productive living environment. This role is responsible for promoting student success, safety, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and counseling to students to achieve a positive attitude and proper behavior in dormitory living situations.
  • Determine and recommend student visits to counselors as needed.
  • Assist in unit activities, including unit government, and patrol and monitor dormitories to ensure safety and proper behavior.
  • Prepare daily operations reports, pass lists, and other administrative correspondence relating to students.
  • Direct students and assist in the cleanup and maintenance of the dormitory.
  • Recommend or requisition supplies to provide needs for dorm living and safety of students.
  • Maintain dormitory and individual student files, ensuring they are complete, updated, and contain all required documentation.
  • Enter student case notes in the center information system.
  • Participate in career development services by ensuring a safe living environment and creating positive peer leadership role modeling techniques within the dorm.
  • Provide guidance, counseling, group sessions, and independent living skills to students.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of career success standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Advanced degrees preferred.
  • A minimum of one-year Job Corps or related program experience required.
  • A valid in-State Driver's License preferred.

Physical Requirements

The Residential Advisor - Student Guidance role requires the ability to sit, stand, climb, walk, lift, pull, and/or push, carry, reach, stoop, and crouch. The ability to lift 40 pounds and/or assess the lift load to ask for necessary assistance is also required.
