About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Chenega MIOS SBU. As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for providing fire protection labor support within the NAVFAC Washington area of responsibility, performing various tasks and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and production support for fire protection engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop and execute projects using Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery methods.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work for code compliance and constructability.
  • Estimate design efforts and provide technical expertise in negotiations with architectural engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Address contractor submittals and requests for information (RFIs).
  • Review and provide feedback on fire protection engineers' work for code compliance and constructability.
  • Estimate design effort and assist in negotiations with architectural engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required.
  • 5+ years of experience in fire protection design and evaluation of new and existing facilities.
  • Experience with fire protection engineer facility design for new and existing buildings.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Fire Protection Engineer in a state or territory within the United States is required.
  • Experience with the full range of fire protection responsibilities, including fire alarm and detection, water-based suppression systems, foam systems, clean agent systems, kitchen protection, and special hazard design.
  • Final DoD Secret clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of NFPA, ICC, and UFC codes.
  • Experience in Construction Management/Scheduling and Cost-estimating.
  • Competent to develop complete construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for new and renovation projects.
  • Experience with field inspections and review of installed components.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Ability to prepare and provide high-level briefs to senior leadership.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to travel to Patuxent River, MD at least once a week.
