Job Summary

The Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Phlebotomy Department, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. This includes coordinating with hospital patient units and the lab to ensure smooth communication and test ordering.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of Phlebotomy staff, providing guidance and expertise as needed.
  • Implement process improvement initiatives and maintain regulatory compliance within the laboratory.
  • Establish effective communication between hospital patient units and the lab for efficient transfer of information.
  • Provide orientation, training, and evaluation for new Phlebotomists, students, and residents.
  • Ensure staff competence in performing duties in Inpatient and Outpatient areas.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining phlebotomy inventory and justifying budget variances.
  • Keep the Lab Manager informed of all phlebotomy activities and personnel problems.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Experience drawing blood preferred, with experience as a lead or supervisor highly recommended.
  • High school or equivalency diploma or satisfactory completion of training in phlebotomy.
  • Phlebotomy certificate required.
