Assistant Professor of History

The Department of History at the University of Wyoming invites outstanding applicants for a tenured track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2025.
We welcome candidates with proficiency in any time period or thematic specialty, broadly defined, whose expertise would strengthen the department.
The holder of this position should be committed to an ambitious research agenda and active involvement in a dynamic department and both its undergraduate and M.A. program.
The University of Wyoming is well positioned to support this position with resources such as the American Heritage Center (the largest repository west of the Mississippi), the Coe Library Special Collections, and strong connections to front-range institutions like the Buffalo Bill Cody Center of the West.
Key Responsibilities- Teach a 2x3 course load, including the survey class "Wyoming History" in fall and spring.
- Teach an undergraduate or graduate course in Western and/or Wyoming history.
- Contribute to the Department of History's funded M.A. program by supervising M.A. students.
- Provide undergraduate career advising and departmental service.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in History at the time of the appointment.
The position provides generous support for faculty research, travel, and conferences, and has undertaken plans to devote its resources to an array of conferences, symposia, and new programs that will provide the holder of this position with an opportunity to help shape its future.
