Job Title: Security Specialist I

Location: Lancaster General Hospital

Shifts: Alternating weeks

- Week 1: Sunday, Wednesday-Thursday; 11:00 pm - 7:00 am

- Week 2: Tuesday, Friday-Saturday; 11:00 pm - 7:00 am

FTE: 0.6

POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors. The individual will conduct investigations as necessary and safeguard hospital facilities and assets as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates must demonstrate the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following tasks:
  • Conduct regular patrols of designated areas, ensuring a secure environment for all individuals on the premises.
  • Participate in daily briefings to stay informed about recent security events and incidents.
  • Maintain a detailed daily activity log documenting security responses and activities during shifts.
  • Address emergency situations, investigate suspicious activities, and de-escalate conflicts as directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Document and resolve security incidents, reporting any misuse of hospital property to the appropriate authorities.
  • Respond to specialized alarms and emergency codes as required.
  • Perform security audits of hospital properties during non-business hours.
  • Monitor hospital grounds and parking facilities for security issues and safety hazards.
  • Oversee traffic flow and parking areas on hospital property.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
  • Provide recommendations to enhance security operations.
  • Engage in crime prevention initiatives to proactively address potential security concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Basic Certification Program within one year of employment.
  • Valid State driver's license required.
  • Completion of specific training programs within six months of employment.
  • Basic CPR/AED certification required within six months of employment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficient reading and writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
EQUIPMENT USAGE REQUIREMENTS

Equipment/Tools: Computer, Phone, Copier, Printer, Fax, Office Supplies, Digital Camera, Handcuffs

Software: Microsoft Office Products, CCTV System, and other security reporting systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position may involve exposure to:
  • Biohazardous materials
  • Bloodborne pathogens
  • High noise levels
  • Extreme temperatures
