About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Portfolio Risk Analyst to join our Durham team at Self-Help. As a key member of our Commercial Lending Asset Quality team, you will play a critical role in reviewing the credit risk of assigned loan portfolios through analysis and relationship building.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze the risk for assigned loan portfolios, including collecting and analyzing financial statements of borrowers.
  • Propose changes in risk rating based on completed analysis and risk management reports.
  • Perform annual site visits to borrowers, providing technical assistance as needed.
  • Assist loan officers in the analysis of loan modifications.
  • Review appraisal and environmental reports for potential and existing borrowers as needed.
  • Develop expertise in one or more key sectors, performing external research as necessary.
  • Assist with portfolio-level analysis, reports, and presentations to top management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with borrowers in assigned loan portfolios, providing excellent customer service.
  • Serve as lead borrower contact, coordinating with internal partners as needed.
  • Support handoffs from Commercial Lending, ensuring seamless borrower transitions.
  • Lead projects to improve operational efficiency and enhance risk management data systems and processes.
  • Act as a change agent to drive Self-Help's economic inclusion initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 2 years of experience in lending, finance, community economic development, or other organizations focused on key sectors.
  • Strong commitment to Self-Help's mission of creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
  • Excellent understanding of balance sheet and income statement analysis.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with borrowers and colleagues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mastery of spreadsheet programs, including Excel, and strong quantitative skills.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.
