POSITION TITLE: Night Yardcrew
REPORTS TO: Manager of Cattle, Yard, or Feed Department – Specific to Feedyard
FLSA STATUS: Exempt from Agriculture, Hourly
FUNCTION: Ensures the safety and security of the premises through vigilant monitoring and patrolling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To excel in this role, an individual must competently fulfill each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
- Secures the property by patrolling the area, locking designated gates, monitoring equipment, and inspecting various buildings (including offices, barns, shops, hospitals, and mills) as well as access points.
- Observes and reports any irregularities such as stray cattle, fire hazards, leaking pipes, and unsecured doors.
- In the event of a fire or unauthorized presence, activates alarms or contacts emergency services or yard management via telephone.
- Documents incidents such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and equipment malfunctions for the supervisory team.
- Monitors water sources by checking gauges and interpreting readings.
- Receives incoming cattle by weighing, unloading, counting, and penning them appropriately.
- Records feed levels in bunks according to a designated schedule, noting the remaining quantity of feed at various intervals throughout the night.
- Distributes hay to incoming cattle as needed using a hay machine.
- Alerts the appropriate supervisor within a specified timeframe regarding rain or snow that may require sweeping of bunks.
- Adheres to all relevant safety policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic understanding of cattle handling practices.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Capability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to understand various instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.
COMPETENCIES:
Expected to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events, demonstrate sound judgment, prioritize and plan work activities, set objectives, observe safety and security protocols, and report potentially hazardous conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
