Livestock Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Livestock Care Specialist to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our farm operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals.
Key Responsibilities- Animal Care and Husbandry: Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks, including basic veterinary procedures.
- Farm Sanitation and Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas on the farm using high-pressure equipment.
- Animal Movement and Handling: Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows.
- Record Keeping and Data Management: Maintain accurate production information and update all department records as required.
- Pharmaceutical Administration: Treat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as required.
- Facility and Equipment Maintenance: Assist with facility and equipment maintenance, including laundry duties.
- Animal Welfare and Biosecurity: Follow the Company's animal welfare policies and procedures, including providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs, providing access to adequate water and high-quality feed, and providing humane treatment of the animals.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred; previous livestock handling experience helpful.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Work Environment: Must be able to work with and around a wide range of antibiotics; must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
