Job Summary

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for handling referrals, processing authorizations, and scheduling appointments. This role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize Mass General Brigham values to guide decisions and actions.
  • Greet patients in a calm and helpful manner.
  • Empty the Referral line daily.
  • Process all prior authorizations.
  • Coordinate referrals and schedule appointments with internal or external specialty departments.
  • Fax pertinent information to external physicians for appointments.
  • Reschedule physicians' schedules as needed.
  • Complete call backs to patients not scheduled.
  • Answer telephones promptly and courteously.
  • Flag clinical staff with appointments and testing.
  • Enter appointments into EPIC with referral numbers and prior authorization numbers.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Previous experience in a medical office environment.
  • Experience handling referrals is preferred.
