Department Summary
The Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool (FHSP) is a rental subsidy initiative of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS), in partnership with various governmental entities, managed-care organizations, and foundations.
Brilliant Corners serves as the primary community-based partner for FHSP, working to identify a diverse array of housing options, including individual apartments, clusters of units, and entire buildings.
We are responsible for locating and securing units throughout the county, providing move-in assistance and rental subsidy distributions, coordinating with case managers, and facilitating neighborhood relations.
Position Summary
Housing Coordinators deliver direct support to individuals who have experienced homelessness across Los Angeles County, assisting with all facets of the housing process.
Our program participants reside in scattered-site settings, project-based environments, and residential facilities, benefiting from either FHSP locally funded subsidies or federal vouchers to support their rent.
Housing Coordinator candidates may engage with participants in any of these settings or subsidy types.Under the guidance of the Program Supervisor, the Housing Coordinator will assist formerly homeless individuals in securing housing in Los Angeles County and provide ongoing housing retention services post-move-in.
The Housing Coordinator will collaborate directly with tenants and work in partnership with property providers, case management, and service providers to ensure that participants successfully maintain their housing over time.
The Coordinator will oversee participants' well-being and unit habitability through regular home visits, which may occur weekly, monthly, or quarterly. The Housing Coordinator will employ creative strategies to avert eviction and address housing-related challenges.Coordinators working with federal voucher holders will gain insights into public housing agencies and Brilliant Corners' policies and procedures, becoming subject matter experts in housing-related matters for their participants.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist program participants, case managers, and property providers in navigating public housing agencies, when applicable.
- Coordinate move-ins for program participants into scattered-site units, project-based units, and/or enriched residential facilities.
- Serve as a liaison between program participants and case management services.
- Collaborate with the Housing Acquisitions team to facilitate housing placements and assignments.
- Ensure participants' well-being and unit habitability through a consistent schedule of inspections and wellness checks.
- Address housing and tenant-related emergencies during business hours and after hours.
- Evaluate the need for reasonable accommodations/unit modifications and assist participants in obtaining necessary information and documentation, if applicable.
- Submit and follow up on tenant maintenance requests.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate progress notes, files, and correspondence while ensuring confidentiality of program participants, staff, and organizational information at all times.
- Conduct regular home visits and phone calls to program participants while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Attend all agency staff meetings and trainings, as well as department meetings and case conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor or Program Manager.
Requirements
Professional Experience
- Minimum one year of experience in non-profit human services.
- Experience with homeless populations, veterans, and/or individuals with health conditions or impairments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with various housing models, such as permanent supportive housing or rapid rehousing, or knowledge of the public housing agency (PHA) system is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities.
- Willingness to travel throughout Los Angeles County and conduct regular in-person visits in the community.
- Valid California driver's license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance required.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Basic computer proficiency, including MS Word and Excel; PowerPoint is preferred.
- Flexibility in scheduling and task prioritization is essential.
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in decision-making scenarios, along with strong organizational and record-keeping skills, and sound independent judgment.

Travel Requirements
This role necessitates frequent visits to properties, participation in on-site vendor meetings, community gatherings, funding workshops, training sessions, and other events throughout the greater Los Angeles County area.
Physical Requirements
Candidates should possess the physical mobility to perform tasks such as standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and walking on uneven surfaces.
Salary range for this position is $24.04-$29.14 annually. This position is being offered at $24.04 annually.
