Position Overview:

The salary range for this role is $162,920 - $213,304. We are seeking a Senior Quantum Systems Physicist with a robust background in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics.

As a key member of our systems operations team, you will engage directly with our cutting-edge quantum computers, overseeing ongoing maintenance, performance optimization, and upgrades across our global installations.

This role involves travel to various locations while being based near our headquarters. You will collaborate with the Systems Engineering team to identify and implement performance enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on operational quantum computers.
  • Travel to multiple sites to manage and facilitate maintenance activities.
  • Provide advanced support to the System Operations team.
  • Offer operational insights to improve the design, modeling, assembly, and characterization of trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Measure and analyze performance data of quantum systems.
  • Work closely with engineers and physicists to develop methodologies for modeling and enhancing quantum computer performance.
  • Mentor operators and fellow engineers and scientists.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in experimental physics or a related discipline, with extensive knowledge of atomic and optical physics.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience applying research to industry-related challenges.
  • Experience in designing and executing complex AMO systems and experiments.
  • Demonstrated experimental expertise in at least two of the following areas: atomic physics systems, diffraction-limited optical systems, lasers (UV to IR), quantum information science, quantum sensors, atomic clocks, and vacuum systems.

Additionally, candidates with the following qualifications will be highly regarded:

  • Over 7 years of experience in relevant industry applications.
  • Experience with trapped-ion quantum computing.
  • Familiarity with ion traps, ultra-high vacuum, and cryogenic systems.
  • Skills in aligning and characterizing diffraction-limited optical systems.
  • Proficiency in Python for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Experience in engineering or systems engineering, focusing on transforming complex physical systems into market-ready products.
