Job Responsibilities

The role involves a wide range of advanced accounting and financial reporting tasks within the Accounting Division. Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and associated financial statements.
  • Providing guidance and training to various departments on accounting practices and the financial management system.
  • Reviewing city revenues and expenditures to ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate fiscal records for grant-funded initiatives in accordance with auditing standards.
  • Ensuring city-wide adherence to financial policies, accounting standards, and legal requirements.
Core Duties
  • Compile the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and financial schedules in compliance with governmental accounting standards.
  • Evaluate revenues and expenditures for policy compliance and recommend necessary adjustments.
  • Manage fiscal records for grants, ensuring timely reimbursement submissions and adherence to grant policies.
  • Offer technical support and training to departments regarding accounting matters.
  • Oversee asset tracking and prepare annual asset reports.
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger and developing the chart of accounts.
  • Conduct budget reconciliations and prepare status reports for various funds.
  • Research and implement new regulations affecting accounting practices.
  • Perform general accounting duties, including journal entries and audits.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare financial reports and documentation for management review.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial documents and presentations.
  • Participate in task forces addressing internal issues.
  • Prepare annual budgets for assigned funds.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, along with two years of professional accounting experience in an automated financial system. Experience in public sector accounting is preferred.

Working Environment:
The position is primarily office-based, requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use.
