Paramedic - Emergency Department - High-Level Care

The Emergency Department Paramedic position is an experienced professional that provides high-level care in the Emergency Department setting under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing delegation and supervision guidelines and within the scope of practice of a Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Key Responsibilities- Patient-Centered Care: Provides patient/family centered care focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This includes rapid evaluation of life-threatening emergencies, implementation of prescribed therapies within scope of practice, collaboration with nursing and medical team to establish treatment goals.
- Effective Communication: Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care and as an effective member of the healthcare team.
- Professional Practice: Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model. This includes participating in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, participation in peer review and professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking.
- Patient Advocacy: Acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care including all patient settings and in the community.
- Clinical Priorities: Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes.
- Medication Administration: Uses medications, treatments and protocols within the scope of practice as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia EMS Board, under the orders from a License Independent Practitioner (LIP).
- Documentation: Documents any medication and treatment rendered in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Patient Re-Assessment: Provides and documents patient re-assessment in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
- Teamwork: Demonstrates high-level teamwork with other members of the Emergency Department Care team.
- Quality Improvement: Supports an environment of evidence-based practice/research/quality improvement initiatives.
- Critical Patient Transport: Monitors and assists in transport of critical patients throughout the organization.
- Trauma Resuscitation: Assists in trauma resuscitation as assigned (including documentation).
- Optimal Patient Flow: Facilitates optimal patient flow through the Emergency Department and ensures the safety and security of all patients.
- Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- Experience: 1 year of experience as a paramedic or 1 year of healthcare experience.
- Licensure: EMT-P in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required.
