Job Summary

The Emergency Department Paramedic position is a critical role that requires a skilled and experienced professional to provide high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides care in the Emergency Department setting under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, adhering to the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing delegation and supervision guidelines.
  • Supports the clinical care within the department, focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs of patients.
  • Collaborates with the nursing and medical team to establish treatment goals and implements prescribed therapies within the scope of practice.
  • Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care and as an effective member of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, and professional development, promoting leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care, identifying clinical priorities and initiating action to improve patient outcomes.
  • Uses medications, treatments, and protocols within the scope of practice, as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia EMS Board, under the orders from a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP).
  • Documents any medication and treatment rendered in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Provides and documents patient re-assessment in the Electronic Medical Record, in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates high-level teamwork with other members of the Emergency Department Care team.
  • Supports an environment of evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors and assists in the transport of critical patients throughout the organization.
  • Assists in trauma resuscitation, as assigned, including documentation.
  • Facilitates optimal patient flow through the Emergency Department and ensures the safety and security of all patients.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience as a paramedic or 1 year of healthcare experience.
  • EMT-P in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required.
Work Environment

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
