Key Responsibilities

As an Ophthalmic Technician I, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care in our Retinal Disorders & Ophthalmic Genetics clinic in Westwood. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Obtaining medical histories from patients with various medical conditions
  • Documenting ocular history and conducting visual acuity tests
  • Performing autorefractometry, lensometry, tonometry, and pupillary defect assessments
  • Assisting with OCT, OCTA, and visual field testing
  • Supporting administrative tasks such as clinic preparation, appointment scheduling, phone handling, and processing prescription refill authorizations
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Knowledge of ophthalmic medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease of the eye and systemic disease that affect the eye
  • Skill in acquiring accurate medical history, measuring, and recording visual acuity, and tonometry
  • Ability to learn state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic medications and the proper instillation of these into the eye
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and instrument sterilization techniques
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties to maximize efficiency
  • Ability to work under pressure over a busy workload
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain comfortable and cooperative working relationships with physicians, patients, and co-workers
  • Ability to work as a team member in a busy practice
  • Ability to use ophthalmic equipment such as tonopen, slit lamp, VA monitor, auto-refractor, chair, and applanation tonometer
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Word and Excel software
  • Ability to work with regular, planned hours and days of the week based on the clinical needs of the service
  • Pleasant, caring, and compassionate personality
  • Responsible, with ability to work in a detailed-oriented manner
