Job Title: Before & After School - Youth Enrichment Instructor

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Enrichment Instructor to join our team at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago. As a Youth Enrichment Instructor, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children in grades K-8. Your primary responsibility will be to implement and adapt a wide variety of enrichment activities that promote learning, character development, and healthy living.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a child-centered environment that fosters teamwork, camaraderie, and inclusiveness.
  • Provide effective supervision of youth, considering diverse abilities and interests, and meeting program quality, safety, and policy requirements.
  • Interact positively with youth, parents/guardians, and other team members to create a respectful, warm, and supportive environment.
  • Prepare lesson plans, ensure materials and supplies are available, and maintain accurate attendance and instructional records.
  • Participate in team meetings and special events.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age and/or 5 years older than the oldest child participating in the program.
  • H.S. Diploma or GED, along with related college coursework and/or equivalent experience in childcare, education, recreation, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model for youth and staff.
  • Commitment to and passion for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago's mission, including a passion for working with diverse youth.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts.

Child Abuse Prevention:

  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs.
  • Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures.
  • Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.
