Job Overview

82nd Street Academics is seeking dedicated part-time Instructors for our after-school initiative aimed at supporting students in their academic and social development. Our program caters to students from Kindergarten through 10th grade across various locations.

The primary objective of our initiative is to deliver essential academic and social support that empowers students to acquire the skills necessary for their secondary and collegiate success.

We achieve this through a comprehensive program that encompasses homework help, artistic expression, physical fitness, STEM activities, leadership training, and college readiness.

This program is supported by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and operates in collaboration with local schools.

Working Hours:
Monday - Tuesday, Thursday - Friday: 3:15 PM - 6:00 PM
Wednesday: 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Note: Additional professional development sessions may occur outside of these hours.

Compensation:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour, based on relevant experience and educational background.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead instructional activities alongside team members.
  • Facilitate social-emotional learning to foster student empowerment.
  • Provide daily leadership for a group of 10-15 students, ensuring retention and engagement whether instruction is delivered remotely or in-person.

Instructors represent our organization within the school environment and are tasked with upholding the institution's culture during after-school hours.

  • Develop lesson plans in advance, ensuring they are age-appropriate and aligned with program objectives.

Our planning focuses on college exploration, STEM, and social-emotional learning. Staff will collaborate to create activities that enhance students' understanding of the high school and college application processes, promoting a college-going culture.

  • Adhere to all protocols for effective remote and in-person instruction, ensuring a safe environment for all participants.

Cleaning and sanitizing student materials at the beginning and end of each shift is mandatory.

  • Serve as a positive role model for students.

All team members must consistently adhere to policies regarding attendance, punctuality, dress code, and respectful interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and school staff.

  • Communicate with parents regarding any concerns and provide excellent customer service with a professional demeanor.
  • Exhibit flexibility and adaptability to changes in daily operations.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with school-age children in a professional capacity.
  • Commitment to the program through the end of June is essential.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
Desired Skills
  • Understanding of best practices for engaging children in extracurricular settings.
  • Strong communication skills for both individual and group interactions.
  • Ability to take responsibility for program outcomes and initiate positive changes in challenging situations.
