Job Title: Senior Counsel, Conflicts and Lobbying Compliance

We are seeking a Senior Counsel to join our General Counsel's team, responsible for Earthjustice's lobbying compliance, including providing legal advice and training on issues of lobbying, lobbying registration, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record, active law license, and at least 5 years of successful experience practicing law.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on laws governing lobbying, including lobbying registration and reporting in federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Advise and assist Earthjustice attorneys and staff regarding lobbying, including overseeing registration and reporting.
  • Develop policies and best practices related to lobbying and lobbying registration and reporting compliance.
  • Prepare and deliver training on lobbying to staff.
  • Audit/revise lobbying registrations and periodic reports.
  • Consult outside counsel on lobbying rules when appropriate.
  • Participate in lobbying budgeting and strategy development.
Requirements:
  • J.D. with strong academic record required.
  • Active law license in good standing in state where you reside and/or as otherwise required.
  • At least 5 years of successful experience practicing law required.
  • Experience advising on Rules of Professional Responsibility preferred.
  • Non-profit experience, although it can be through pro bono, 501(c)(4) experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of state and federal lobbying laws preferred.
  • Experience supervising staff and contributing to training and organizational learning preferred.
  • Prior experience with conflicts of interest resolution or risk management in a law firm environment highly preferred.
