Position Overview:
As an Environmental Water Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design and execution of projects aimed at revitalizing the Everglades, focusing on canal and levy systems, as well as other critical flow management projects essential for ecosystem preservation. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage in impactful environmental restoration and infrastructure development, contributing to a sustainable future for Florida.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and direct the design of canal and levy systems, along with other water flow projects associated with Everglade restoration and DOT initiatives.
- Employ AutoCAD, GIS, and various hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools to create models, analyze outcomes, and devise effective solutions.
- Draft mitigation, stormwater, grading, and construction plans, designing and sizing diverse Best Management Practices (BMPs) in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Offer technical guidance during the land acquisition process, perform initial feasibility assessments, and evaluate mitigation design proposals.
- Formulate technical specifications and supervise construction teams in the field.
- Conduct site assessments, data collection, and construction oversight, with occasional travel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, specializing in water resources or environmental engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in stormwater management, floodplain management, and/or stream and wetland design.
- Experience in overseeing construction for natural resource projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D, TR-20/55, HEC-RAS/HMS, XPSWMM, and GIS.
- In-depth knowledge of watershed hydrology, stream geomorphology, and related disciplines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex design concepts to diverse audiences.
- PE License in Florida or eligibility to obtain a PE in Florida.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with canal and levy systems, and projects related to Everglade restoration.
- Background in preparing floodplain analyses, hydraulic and hydrology investigations, and associated studies.
