Job Summary:

The Ophthalmology Assistant plays a vital role in the eye care team, performing a range of tasks to support the delivery of high-quality patient care. Key responsibilities include conducting visual acuity tests, tonometry, and other basic tests, as well as preparing patients for special testing and assisting with minor surgical procedures.

Additionally, the Ophthalmology Assistant will be responsible for completing history and physical forms, filing, preparing injections, and transcribing chart notes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role, as the individual will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide excellent patient care.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum six months of experience in front and/or back office in ophthalmology or optometry, or a combination of equivalent education and experience required
  • Efficient in ophthalmic and medical terminology, knowledge of insurances, and ophthalmic anatomy
  • Able to keyboard 40 wpm and use computer software programs necessary to the position
  • Ability to apply basic principles of ophthalmic patient care to assist and support physicians and team
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Satisfactory completion of Loma Linda departmental standards for Ophthalmic Assistant within 90 days of hire
  • BLS within 90 days of hire and must be maintained
  • Valid Driver's License required at time of hire
