Job Overview

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing both administrative and clinical assistance as directed by healthcare professionals. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring efficient patient care and office operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administrative Duties: Manage appointment scheduling, maintain accurate medical records, and handle billing and coding for insurance claims.
  • Clinical Duties: Measure and document vital signs, gather medical histories, prepare patients for examinations, and perform blood draws.
General Responsibilities:
  • Update and maintain patients' medical histories, ensuring accurate medication reconciliation and communication with healthcare providers.
  • Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for patient visits.
  • Conduct patient interviews to collect relevant medical information, including medications and allergies, while also measuring vital signs.
  • Assist patients in transitioning to examination rooms and prepare them for consultations with physicians.
  • Collect and process blood and urine specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Manage prescription refills, provide pharmacy information, and complete necessary authorization forms.
  • Educate patients on treatment procedures, medications, and dietary instructions as provided by physicians.
  • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials and maintain safety protocols.
  • Perform general office tasks, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, and managing medical record requests.
  • Facilitate patient check-in and check-out processes as needed.
  • Support physicians during examinations and treatments by providing necessary instruments and materials.
  • Coordinate with medical facilities for patient testing and referrals.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Prompt and professional response to patient needs.
  • Strong understanding of both clinical and administrative procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Problem-solving abilities in a clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with clinical software and electronic medical records.
  • Effective multitasking and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar applications.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma is mandatory.
  • Associate degree or vocational training is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical assistant role or similar is preferred.
  • CMA/RMA certification is highly desirable.
  • Phlebotomy certification and/or relevant experience is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform tasks on a computer.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds.
Transportation Requirements:
  • Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between office locations.
