POSITION OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this role is to plan, manage, and oversee the organization and execution of social, recreational, and educational programs tailored for residents, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Birchaven Village's policies and ethical standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Program Management: Lead the organization and execution of social, recreational, and educational enrichment programs for residents, adhering to all applicable standards and maintaining confidentiality to protect resident rights.

2. Policy Development: Create and uphold written policies and procedures that align with current best practices and reflect the mission of the life enrichment department, emphasizing Person-Centered Care.

3. Budget Oversight: Manage the department's resources, including activity supplies and equipment, while preparing and adhering to the operational and capital budget.

4. Care Coordination: Oversee assessments, care plans, and progress documentation related to life enrichment, ensuring services are personalized and respect each resident's individual preferences and values.

5. Leadership and Accountability: Demonstrate leadership to ensure the implementation of a resident-centered life enrichment program that enhances residents' physical, mental, and social well-being, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.

6. Calendar Planning: Develop life enrichment calendars that accommodate resident interests and maximize participation, including evening and weekend offerings.

7. Staffing Management: Assess staffing needs for the life enrichment department and provide support to meet residents' activity requirements, including managing volunteers and the gift shop.

8. Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality resident care through effective department management and team collaboration.

9. Resident Engagement: Facilitate resident council meetings and participate in various organizational meetings as required.

10. Training and Development: Establish and implement a comprehensive orientation and ongoing training program for staff to maintain service quality.

11. Continuous Learning: Attend educational programs to stay updated on current practices and relay important information to the life enrichment team.

12. Mission Alignment: Actively support and engage in the organization's mission, vision, and values to enhance resident satisfaction and contribute to overarching goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold a valid license or registration as a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional in Ohio.
  • Experience in social or recreational programming, with at least two years in a therapeutic activities setting preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage residents effectively.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles relevant to the resident population served.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Two years of experience managing an activity program in a long-term care environment.
