POSITION OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this role is to effectively organize, manage, and oversee the planning and execution of social, recreational, and educational initiatives for residents, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and ethical standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Program Management: Lead the organization and implementation of life enrichment programs that adhere to current regulations and facility guidelines while maintaining confidentiality and respecting resident rights.

2. Policy Development: Create and uphold written policies that reflect best practices in life enrichment, emphasizing a person-centered approach to care.

3. Budget Oversight: Manage departmental resources, including activity supplies and equipment, within the established operating and capital budget. Prepare and monitor the department's financial plan.

4. Resident Care Coordination: Oversee assessments, care plans, and documentation related to life enrichment, ensuring services are tailored to individual resident preferences and values.

5. Leadership and Accountability: Demonstrate leadership in fostering a resident-centered life enrichment program that enhances residents' physical, mental, and social well-being, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.

6. Activity Scheduling: Plan and develop life enrichment calendars that maximize resident participation, including evening and weekend activities.

7. Staffing Management: Assess staffing needs for the department and provide support to meet residents' life enrichment requirements, including oversight of volunteer programs.

8. Quality Assurance: Ensure high standards of resident care and promote teamwork within the department.

9. Resident Engagement: Facilitate resident council meetings and participate in various organizational meetings as required.

10. Staff Training: Develop and implement orientation and ongoing training programs for staff to maintain service quality.

11. Professional Development: Attend educational programs to stay informed about current practices and share relevant information with the life enrichment team.

12. Organizational Commitment: Actively engage in promoting the mission, vision, and values of Birchaven Village to enhance resident satisfaction and support organizational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess appropriate licensure or registration as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional.
  • Experience in social or recreational programming is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage residents in activities.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Two years of experience managing an activity program in a long-term care setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees must be able to perform essential functions of the role, which may include standing, walking, and engaging in physical activities with residents.
