Position Overview

The role of Lead Embedded Systems Manager is pivotal in steering the development of embedded systems within Brambles Digital.

This leadership position entails close collaboration with embedded engineers to guide the creation of low-power tracking solutions. You will be responsible for setting the vision and direction for the next generation of tracking technologies, ensuring alignment with industry advancements in hardware and systems.

Your responsibilities will include coordinating with business operations and facilities, managing external consultants, and overseeing manufacturing partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and validate comprehensive system requirements while developing hardware that integrates seamlessly with cloud platforms.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership to transform innovative concepts into commercially viable products.
  • Establish processes that enhance the early evaluation of concepts, improving the predictability of product development timelines.
  • Collaborate with consultants, vendors, and contract manufacturers to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Align resources and conduct thorough reviews of technical data to ensure consistent execution of R&D objectives.
  • Foster expertise within the organization in advanced sensor and connectivity technologies.
  • Develop and monitor detailed specifications, project plans, and schedules in partnership with Engineering, Product Management, and Executive teams.
  • Ensure timely delivery of software and hardware for edge devices while overseeing the scrum team's progress through regular reporting.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and engineering teams.
  • Coach and mentor team members to achieve high performance and implement agile improvement plans.
  • Oversee project schedules and workflows, managing dependencies and planning effectively.
Performance Metrics

  • Timely delivery of hardware edge devices and their integration with cloud platforms.
  • Effective management of vendors, suppliers, and engineering teams.
  • Resolution of technical issues during production and operational phases.
  • Efficient management of project schedules and workflows with the software engineering team.
Decision-Making Authority

  • Make personnel decisions regarding hiring, dismissals, and performance management.
  • Resolve program-related issues and conflicts.
  • Set annual objectives and performance targets.
  • Work autonomously with limited oversight from management.
  • Navigate a matrix environment and collaborate across multiple time zones.
Challenges

  • This role demands advanced analytical skills and a deep understanding of digital devices, alongside strong business acumen and management capabilities.
Key Contacts

Internal:
Collaborate with the Platform Engineering team, project managers, developers, and various strategic and architectural teams, including Directors and VPs.

External:
Engage with external user groups, software vendors, contractors, and potentially customers utilizing our tools.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with experience in hardware development.
Experience

  • Over 7 years of leadership experience managing diverse teams across multiple functions and geographies.
  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional and multi-country business change initiatives.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics and data-driven approaches to business challenges.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of programs within a matrix structure, delivering customer value propositions, and leading technology-related initiatives.
Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of MCU-based controller design.
Familiarity with communication protocols:
TCP/IP; UDP, I2C, SPI, UART, I2S, PCM.

  • Experience with sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, GPS, and temperature sensors.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, LTE-M1, and NB-IoT is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success in managing engineering teams and external contractors.
