Sterile Processing Technician II

As a Sterile Processing Technician II at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality standards in medical equipment processing. Your primary responsibility will be to decontaminate, clean, package, sterilize, store, and distribute medical and surgical equipment and supplies in accordance with CDC, OSHA, EPA, AAMI, Title 22, APIC, SGNA, and JC guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fulfill orders from requesting departments with precision and efficiency.
- Conduct equipment rounds, returning soiled equipment to the Sterile Processing Department, and validate functionality prior to storage.
- Provide exceptional customer service by answering phones and responding to inquiries.
- Manage inventory and restock supplies, including specialty carts, in accordance with department policy.
- Order specialty beds and patient equipment as needed.
- Disassemble, clean, or decontaminate surgical instruments according to manufacturers' recommendations.
- Assemble, inspect, test, wrap, and date OR sets, including specialty sets, per department protocol.
- Operate equipment in the Sterile Processing Department, including steam sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, and automated endoscope reprocessors.
- Utilize instrument and equipment tracking systems, documenting tests and sterilizer records.
- Examine and maintain the integrity of sterile packages.
- Prepare OR case carts according to preference cards for all surgical procedures.
- Promote and ensure exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve departmental goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of training and service.
Experience: Two (2) years of recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute hospital or a Surgical Technician with two (2) years of recent experience working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital. Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program including 400 clinical hours or a Surgical Technician program. Certification: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification or Registered Central Service Technician Certificate or Surgical Technologist Certificate. Additional Requirements: Basic knowledge of instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization. Knowledge of Sterile Processing Department Policies and Procedures. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a stressful environment. Basic computer skills. Preferred Qualifications: N/A. Notes:
